Spalding's Wygate Park Academy crowned Environmental Champions

The strong sense of community spirit at Wygate Park Academy saw it crowned our Environmental Champions.

The award - sponsored and judged by South Holland District Council - aims to reward those with the strongest green credentials.

Wygate Park Academy emerged victorious, with Bourne Elsea Park school and individual Wygate pupil Robert Page runners up.

Winning head teacher Dr Craig Early said: "It's really something in the school's ethos - it's all about preparing children to be functioning citizens and looking into the future and for this next generation looking after the planet is massive."

He added: "The award is the bonus for the work we are doing to inspire."

Robert, who played his part in winning the school award by giving up his own time on litter picks as a 'Womble', said he was inspired to do his bit to look after the animals.
