A passionate exhibitor from Spalding is set to represent Lincolnshire in a popular miniatura show this weekend
A passionate exhibitor will be representing South Holland and Lincolnshire with a collection of miniature houses at a popular event.
Spalding’s Christine Meggitt, who is known as Kit, has been absorbed in the hobby since she was six years old and is set to represent the county with 100 dolls houses at an exhibition this weekend.
She said: “I go twice a year as a guest exhibitor and I call it my ‘showing off’ weekend. The organiser joked about me bringing 100 different houses for the 100th show, so I am going to do just that – which took him by surprise.
“ I am a Lincolnshire person and have lived here all my life. I will be representing the area and Lincolnshire. We are classed as a county of cabbages and we’re a heck of a lot more than that.”
The Miniatura Autumn show will celebrate 100 events this weekend at the NAEC Stoneleigh Exhibition Centre on Saturday, 14 and Sunday, September 15 from 10am until 4pm.
It will feature lots of workshops and exhibitors showcasing a variety of miniature items. Kit added: “I think it is a wonderful hobby for all ages. I have had youngsters visit from the age of six until they are 18, who often return to the hobby when they are older.
“Some of the houses in the display are from makers around the area who will also be at the event. My Queen Elizabeth dolls house is a terrace of houses, which partly resembles Regent Street in Spalding.
“South Holland will be represented with a hundred little houses. Lincolnshire will be well covered with Dee-Daw Designs in Long Sutton, Mini McGregor in Lincoln and Petite Properties in Metheringham.
“The range of miniature making is incredible, from the ordinary mundane to the antique collectable's and mystical and magic sci-fi things – if you can dream of it, you can make it.”
Organiser for the event, Andy Hopwood’s parents first started the exhibition 41 years ago. He said: “This will be our 100th event. My mum and day started it in 1983 as a place for miniaturists to get together and enjoy their hobby.
“I love it and it fills me with a great deal of pride. People come back time and time again and it’s a real community atmosphere. Everyone is smiling and enjoying their hobby and we get 1,000 people walking through the doors each day.
“Kit has been coming for years and is one of my little stands of joy. She is a very creative person and a safe pair of hands for people to go to if they want to learn more about the hobby.”
Tickets for the Saturday show cost £7 and £5.50 on Sunday. For a weekend ticket it will be £8 for adults. Children tickets start at £3.
