Families had a ‘gourd’ time at Spalding Pumpkin Festival

Mischievous pumpkins, music and stalls helped to bring a bumper crowd to the town over the weekend.

The annual Spalding Pumpkin Festival returned on Saturday and provided families with a ‘gourd’ time - despite rain early in the day.

Bridge Street was once again transformed into ‘Pumpkin Street’ thanks to the efforts of artist Jonathan Nichols. His cheeky pumpkin sculptures included pigs with a motorcyclist and some pumpkin spiders.

Free face painting for youngsters was on offer in Market Place — plus youngsters had the opportunity to look around a police car which was set up in the area.

A stage was set-up in Hall Place in which youngsters sang and danced along with the artists plus they had fun in an autumnal themed globe.

Stalls lined Sheep Market and The Sessions House also joined in the fun with an artisan fair.

South Holland District Council community development portfolio holder Coun Gary Taylor was delighted with the festival’s success and was joined by Coun Andrew Woolf in judging the window competition.

He said: “It is good to see that number of people and children so the tradition of the pumpkin festival continued in this present format.

“We were really pleased with the reaction to the event.”
