Fleet Village Fete brings community together at event which included welly-throwing, tug of war and special guests Spalding Flower Queen and her deputy
Community spirit was in full flow at an event for which organisers pulled out the stops to create a successful family day out.
Harold Payne from Anglia Motel Veterans opened the Fleet village fete marking a link to the commemorations of D Day. Spalding Flower Queen Becs Roberts and deputy Demi Fontaine Gilchrist also attended.
The free event, organised by Fleet Parish Council, included bouncy castles, stalls, a Chitty Chitty Bang Bang car, welly-throwing and games. It was attended by members of the King’s Lynn Steampunk Society.
Coun Paul Barnes said: “There were lots of people even though the weather was overcast.
“The parish council invests every year so the children can get rides free of charge.
“We like to try and keep it for the community, keep it local and a reasonable size.”
There were winners on the day with a trophy for the inaugural tug of war competition and on person made a 26-metre-throw of a welly.
Various charity stalls were in place as well as one by the Royal British Legion and music was performed by the Holbeach Town Band.
The Holbeach Training Corps helped with the refreshments and some 70 vehicles, a mixture of vintage cars, added to entertainment.
Coun Barnes added: “Events like this show the community is working together.
“We all get to meet different people and it is a brilliant family day out.”
Next year’s village fete will take place on Sunday, June 8.
