Spalding and Long Sutton firefighters raise money for a good cause
Firefighters switching from tackling flames to extinguishing stains in a good natured series of charity car washes.
Motorists were able to drive away with sparkly vehicles after crew members at Spalding Fire Station and Long Sutton Community Fire Station set up their own car wash.
The annual county-wide event raises funds for the Fire Fighters Charity – which offers specialist and lifelong support for members of the UK fire services community.
Station manager Lee Marsh said: “The Fire Fighters Charity does incredible work to support current and ex-firefighters and their families. They support so many people in what can be a very challenging role.
“The car washes are sponsored by Autoglym nationally, but this year we have LGM Products that are very kindly sponsoring us here in Lincolnshire.”
Lindsey Cawrey, who is executive councillor for fire and rescue at Lincolnshire County Council said: “A big thank you to our fire crews who take the time to run events in their communities and raise money for a great cause.
“Consistently Lincolnshire events raise the most money of any county – and that’s also down to the generosity of our residents who support these efforts.”
As well as Spalding (on Sunday) and Long Sutton (on Saturday), teams from Binbrook, Louth, Bourne, Grantham, Gainsborough, North Somercotes, Alford, Leverton and Billingborough took part over the weekend.
A number of other events will be taking place throughout March. If you would like to support the cause, the crew at Kirton and Market Rasen will be cleaning cars on Saturday, March 15.
Wragby Market Place and Corby Glen Fire station will be hosting their car washes on Saturday, March 22.
For more information and timings visit the individual Facebook pages for the fire stations. Cash donations are taken at the events.
