An alert has been put in place for the Lower Welland - with residents warned of potential flooding to gardens, driveways and outhouses.

Updates issued this morning warn of rising water levels for the river and other watercourses from Stamford to Spalding, including Market Deeping.

The public are also being told to ‘avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses’.

There are also alerts in place for the Welland Valley and River Jordan from Braybrooke to Stamford, as well as areas of the Trent and Witham within Lincolnshire.

“Over the last 24 hours we have seen heavy rainfall in the Lower Welland area,” a Government update says.

“This means that the River Welland is now rising, which will lead to flooding of low-lying land and roads close to the river from the morning of Monday, November 25 onwards.

“We expect the river to remain high throughout the next few days and flooding to gardens, driveways or outhouses is possible close to the river.”

However, as forecasts indicate that flooding inside properties is not likely and therefore flood warnings are not expected to be issued.

“We are constantly monitoring river levels and have staff in the field checking for blockages and clearing weedscreens,” the update added.

“Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.”
