Spalding Flower Parade will go ahead in 2025 - and a date has been set
The Spalding Flower Parade will go ahead next year… and a date has been set.
Despite hard work from the organising committee to ensure next year’s spectacular would go ahead, question marks had loomed over the popular event due to the need to find a viable venue to host the floats.
However, in a statement issued this evening, supporters have been told the 2025 parade is happening - and it may even be bigger and better than before.
“The Flower Parade will return on Saturday, May 10,” a statement from the organisers revealed.
“This is a community event and once again a free to attend spectacle with floats and marching bands.”
Tens of thousands of revellers have flocked to Spalding to cheer the floats and enjoy the party atmosphere since the parade’s return in 2022, following a ten-year absence.
The Castle Sports Complex has hosted the event for the past two years but will be unavailable next spring due to undergoing a £26 million makeover.
The organising committee voted to move the host venue to the out-of-town Springfields Exhibition Centre, but wanted the public to rubber stamp their decision with a vote.
And the public have voted in favour.
“The route will be similar to last year (going through the town centre) but just a bit longer in order to get to and from the event centre,” the statement added.”
The site of the host venue is vital due to offering the public an opportunity to stop by and look at the floats close up.
On top of that, craft stalls, food vendors and live entertainment at the venue also plays an important part in raising the £80,000 needed to stage the parade.
However, this year’s event could be even bigger and better than previous years.
“We are planning on putting on regular shuttle buses between the town centre and event centre,” the statement confirmed.
“We also hope to see a stage in the Market Place for some live entertainment on the day (but this is still to be confirmed) as well as free entertainment at the event centre on the Friday evening and throughout Saturday.
“There is so much we can do and so much we want to do, we are really excited about it.”
Adrian Jansen, chair of Springfields Horticultural Society, has backed the plans.
He said: “The society’s trustees will be pleased to hear we have been able to help with the parade organisation next year, and in particular those groups and individuals, especially the children, can start planning their part in the event.
“Hopefully it will be a fun and enjoyable day for all.”
