Heritage displays could be improving Spalding empty shop fronts

Heritage displays could be brightening up empty shop fronts in the town centre.

South Holland District Council and Spalding Gentlemen’s Society could be working together in order to improve the appearance of vacant shops.

This news comes shortly after Spalding Town Board revealed its bold new vision which includes a market canopy, seating around the River Welland and a host of other things to help regenerate the town.

Tackling the issue of empty buildings in the town is also a feature of the plan.

Spalding has a number of empty shops in the town centre including the former Lloyds Chemist, the Shoppe, and Robert Goddard.

Coun Liz Sneath, Portfolio Holder for Health and Wellbeing, Conservation and Heritage, reported to last week’s full council meeting: “We are supporting a project to provide museum outreach displays in empty shopfronts as well as incorporating their artifacts and images within our marketing and documents to provide a cohesive message.”

The society is currently based at Ayscoughfee Hall while its Broad Street museum is undergoing major renovations and an expansion into the neighbouring former business centre.
