Spalding's Johnson Hospital upgrade 'good for everyone'

The upgrade of Spalding's Johnson Hospital will be 'good for everyone', according to a leading councillor.

From next Thursday, April 1, patients will be able to book appointments for a range of 'urgent care' treatments at the hospital using the NHS 111 service.

The facility is being relaunched as an Urgent Treatment Centre - having previously been running as a Minor Injury Unit.

The change, announced by Lincolnshire Community Health Service, means that patients will not have to travel to Boston or Peterborough for a range of conditions including broken limbs, strains and sprains, stomach pains, eye problems and head injuries.

Coun Gary Taylor, a South Holland District Council cabinet member, hailed the move as a positive step for the town.

He said: "This is really good news. It's something we have been campaigning for for some time - it's really needed."

He added: "It's nice to have some positive news at a time of doom and gloom - it will be good for everyone."
