Housing plan approved for Gedney Dyke pub

A former pub and its car park is set to be turned into two houses.

Mr G Franklin has been given permission by the South Holland District Council to convert The Chequers in Gedney Dyke into homes, writes Olivia Marshall.

The pub served up its last drink in 2017 and was placed on the list of community assets the following year following a campaign to retain the bar by villagers.

The decision notice states: “The conversion of the building into residential would ensure the building’s long-term conservation.”

Mr Franklin had been granted planning permission in 2021 to change the use of the pub into housing along with removing the site from the list of community assets.

Minor alterations will be required to convert the pub building into a house resulting in only minimal impact on residents.

Changes will include the removal of The Chequers sign and a private garden which will boost the biodiversity of the area.

The principle of development and sustainability statement says: “The principal of residential development within this location is considered to be appropriate, compromising an appropriate form of development for the location and would be in accordance with the overall principles of spatial strategy”
