Holbeach Parish Council organises VE Day celebrations at Carter’s Park

Hundreds of people turned out for an event that marked 80 years since the surrender of Germany in the Second World War.

Holbeach Parish Council organised a celebration in Carter’s Park to mark VE Day on Thursday, May 8.

Visitors enjoyed music from the 1940s and 50s and could light a lamp of peace during the proceedings which started at 5.30pm and went on until 9.30pm.

Jan Hearsey, parish clerk, said: “It went amazingly well, it really did.

“It was so well attended and the atmosphere was brilliant.

“It was very cold so we could have asked for warmer weather.”
