GCSE results 2024: Spalding High School is ‘pleased and proud’ with results
Spalding High School leaders are ‘pleased and proud’ after this year’s GCSE results have been revealed.
More than 1,500 qualifications were taken by the Year 11 students this summer and of those 46% were graded at Grades 7–9; the very highest grades possible, which is an increase on last year.
The High School results compare very favourably with the national Grade 7-9 attainment rate of 21.7% and regional rate of 18.3% Grade 7-9.
“We are both pleased and proud to report that our Year 11 students have secured truly phenomenal results this week” said headmistress Michele Anderson.
“The school is so proud of our Year 11 students who have worked tremendously hard on their GCSE studies over the last two years.
“Their results are a testament to their commitment and hard work alongside the support of their parents and carers and the dedication of our experienced staff.”
The following students all achieved an average grade of at least a GCSE grade 8 across their 11 or 12 subjects, including one student who achieved 12 Grade 9s: Elizabeth Atolagbe, Claude Ham, Debbie Ibberson, Cordi Mansfield, Lizzy Newson, Emi Praneviciute, Alexa Shogy, Vanessa Singh, Briony Sweeting, Erin Taylor, Lily Theyer and Grace Zacharkiewicz.
“We continue to be very proud of our students’ EBacc results with 89% of students entered for the qualification,” Mrs Anderson added.
“In English, 100% of students achieved a grade 4 (standard pass), or higher and 97% achieved a grade 5+ (good pass) or above.
“In mathematics, 98% of students achieved a grade 4 or higher and 87% achieved a grade 5 or above. 98% of students achieved a grade 4 or higher in both English and mathematics.
“We wish all our students the very best of luck and every success in the future; they have been rewarded with grades that will stand them in good stead for the next step in their education.
“The very great majority of Year 11s will be returning to the High School in September to take up A-level courses along with a large number of transferees from other schools.

“We are looking forward to welcoming them all. The High School is delighted that the students have done so well in their GCSE subjects; they should be as proud of themselves as we are of them.”
The school’s top scholar was Briony Sweeting, 16, of Pinchbeck, who had achieved a fantastic 12 grade 9s in all of her subjects.
Hard work had definitely paid off for disciplined Briony after revising for five hours most days.
Briony said: “I am glad all the hours paid off. I was working so hard and was relieved when I received my results.
“I was proud of the English Literature result as that was my most difficult subject but maths was my favourite. I was surprised when I got a 9 as I thought it was going to be an 8. I am really glad that I did better than I had expected.”
Briony is joining the sixthform in September when she will study maths, further maths, chemistry and physics.
She said: “I am really excited for next year - it is going to be fun.”
Claude Ham, 16, of Spalding, had achieved six grade 9s - which included French - along with four grade 8s along with a 7 and 6.
They said: “I am really pleased with how I did.
“I had been getting 8s in French and really wanted a 9 so I am happy with that.”
Claude, who hopes to become an actor, will be returning to sixth form to study maths, further maths, drama and religious studies.
Grace Zacharkiewicz, 16, is another top achiever at the school having secured four grade 9s in Latin, German, Polish and religious studies. She also has four 8s and four 7s.
The Spalding youngster said she was most pleased of her language results and the grade 8s she received for English literature and language.
She said: “I love English and wanted to do well and I love talking so languages have always been in my life.
“I speak Polish at home and it helped me with my German as quite a lot of the grammar is similar.”
Grace will be returning to Spalding High School to study A-levels in biology, English literature and psychology.
Ruby Wilding, 16, of Spalding, was very excited with grade 8s in religious studies and German - her favourite subject. She also achieved a grade 7, three 6s, two 5s and a four.
She said: “I was shaking when I looked at the computer and was crying. For me my grade 8s was never something I expected. I cried happy tears.
“I was so happy as I had probably worked the hardest for German as I loved it all the way through school.”
Ruby is going to be joining the sixth form in September when she will study business, religious studies and psychology.
Friends Beth Stewart and Izzie Thorne were also happy with their results.
They will be moving into school’s sixth form in September when Beth will be studying PE, business and photography while Izzie is working on DT, business and photography.
One person who enjoys results day is head of sixth form Hannah Waldron, who has praised pupils for their hard work and resilience.
Mrs Waldron said she had some ‘lovely phone calls’ earlier in the day to share results with pupils.
She said: “I am super proud of them all. They have worked their socks off and have done really well. They have showed such resilience as it’s not always easy to do your GCSEs.
“I have loved today. When you see the big smiles on their faces and the relief it is over and their excitement for the next chapter. They deserve all the success.”
