Anger as double yellow lines are painted in Pinchbeck in move that came as surprise

Villagers say they feel let down after double yellow lines were painted outside their homes over the weekend without any prior warning.

Lincolnshire County Council has angered some people in Pinchbeck after laying double yellow lines in Forge Crescent and Knight Street over the weekend as part of a school safety zone.

Caroline Connell said she had no notification that the county council was going to be installing the lines in Force Crescent until she saw a lorry arrive at about 8pm on Sunday evening - and feels that this is not going to make life harder for friends and family visiting her.

The county council’s planning and regulation committee decided to implement the school safety zone in September last year after a request was made by Pinchbeck East Primary School.

Caroline, who has lived in Forge Crescent since 1981, said: “Residents are suffering and are being victimised for the benefit of the school, when the school has increased in size and has not made provision.

“As far as I’m aware, none of the residents were informed. They should have given us eight weeks notice - and we have had no information since 2023.

“I feel let down that they did not notify us that this was happening.”

Caroline says that residents had been promised a meeting with the school but says that didn’t happen and also feels that there were more objections to the scheme.

She said would have preferred a no access sign to be placed at the top of the road instead of the double yellow lines.

Caroline said: “I don’t feel that they have kept us in the loop and not taken us into consideration.”

A highways spokesperson said: “The on-street parking here is generated by parents dropping off and picking up school children and, although no formal meeting took place with the school, we were contacted by them via the local county councillor regarding possible measures to manage traffic speed and parking in the area. The school was consulted on the measures introduced and voiced no objection.

“We don’t typically inform residents of works like these unless there is a restriction to resident or business access while they are being carried out.

“We encourage anyone with questions or concerns about these works to contact their local county councillor.”
