An ‘amazing’ night of music has helped to raise hundreds of pounds towards a town’s showpiece event.

Members of the Ukulele Orchestra of Spalding (UOOS) recently performed to a full house at Broad Street Methodist Church and raised £805 in aid of the Spalding Flower Parade.

Special guests Becs Roberts, who is the current Flower Queen, and her deputy Demi Fontaine Gilchrist attended the Night With Ukes concert which featured an appearance from opera singer Jeff Woods, known as Pavanotti.

Katy, secretary of UOOS, said: “The fundraiser concert was absolutely wonderful.

“We were able to showcase some of our recent additions to our repertoire which included our very own Sue Paget on the piano, David Piff on harmonica, Fran Harris on the Tenor Recorder along with our other usual additions of percussion instruments.

“We were overwhelmed with the community support and it was a privilege and pleasure to hand over a cheque to the committee at the end of the evening.”

“It was a really good night especially for people who had never seen the ukes or me before.

“I thoroughly enjoyed being part of something amazing as a proud member of the orchestra and everything made goes to the flower parade.

Fundraising towards next year’s flower parade which attracts thousands to the town is underway all year round including a Winter Wonderland at Ayscoughfee Hall on Saturday, December 2.

A spokesperson said: “The committee is thrilled to announce the success of the fundraiser featuring lively performances by the orchestra and the special guest artist, Pavanotti.

“The event brought together the community for an evening of music and joy, all in support of the beloved Spalding Flower Parade.

“Thanks to the incredible generosity of attendees and supporters, this contribution will play a significant role in preparing for the parade next year and helping us bring even more colour and creativity to next year’s parade.
