A successful ‘paw-bles’ experience at Doodles Pottery Painting in Weston
A sentimental festive gift and successful day out at the garden centre with my pooch - what more could you ask for?
On many occasions I have been told I am an old soul trapped in a young person's body – and I would probably have to agree.
My idea of a nice weekend would include a garden centre trip, pit stop at the local pub for a couple of drinks, and back home in time for a cosy night in.
I also love anything Christmas related, so when I discovered Doodles Pottery Painting, would be hosting a festive workshop for dogs, I jumped at the opportunity to book a slot.
As the studio is located inside Baytree Garden Centre, in Weston, it also seemed like the perfect way for me to squeeze in another visit.
My boyfriend, Jacob, and I took Izzy (our family dog) at the beginning of December to the ‘paw-bles’ experience.
All we had to do was choose a convenient time which suited us, and show up on the day.
I was a bit apprehensive of how Izzy would react to the whole experience because she can sometimes get a bit overwhelmed – but don’t we all?
The little lady is 13 years old and has a tiny bit of arthritis in her joints, so she doesn't always enjoy her feet or legs being touched.
But lo and behold, she loved her festive day out.
Prior to the paw printing, we got to choose which size bauble we wanted and the paint colour.
Izzy sat on my knee whilst the friendly lady painted her ‘toe beans’ – and with a gentle press and lots of head scratches it was all done and dusted.
The artists at Doodles took it all from there as they designed and decorated the bauble. The studio also offered an alternative ‘paw-ble kit’ for pooches who wouldn’t enjoy the busy in-person experience.
Owners were able to take home the kit and bring it back for the team to decorate.
Myself and Jacob were a bit shocked at how quick the process was, but overall it was a really nice experience and cost £16.50.
We had a walk around Baytree to show Izzy all of the Christmas lights and she met lots of other dogs on the way.
She also received loads of compliments on her Christmas jumper and enjoyed sniffing all of the different smells and wanted to look at everything.
After a fulfilling time at Doodles and the garden centre, Izzy had a snooze in the car on the way home and fast forward a week – we were able to pick up her ‘paw-ble’.
Izzy’s paw print was front and centre with her name written in pink below it, and ‘Christmas 2024’ on the back.
Everyone in my family loved it and was impressed with the quality.
It is a special sentiment we can keep for years to come and Izzy even gave it the sniff of approval.
Izzy’s ‘paw-ble’ now hangs proud on our Christmas tree and makes me smile whenever I look at it.
Doodles last day before the Christmas break will be Saturday, December 21, however, it will be back open on Wednesday, January 8, with lots more more crafts and workshops.
