Spalding family welcomes fifth generation great great grandson after ‘traumatic’ birth
After a ‘traumatic’ birth a young mother welcomed her son into the world - who is a fifth generation family member.
Carmy Alexander Daniel Mason was born on Friday, January 24, to Spalding parents Sam Mason, 19, and Mollie Craig-Baxter, 17, at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn.
After undergoing a surgical procedure, Mollie bravely gave birth naturally and according to family will ‘make a cracking mum’.
Carmy’s great-great grandparents are David and Anne Barnes, 75, great grandparents Tracey Daniel, 57, and her partner Paul and granddad is Danny Baxter,40.
Devon Baxter, 27, who is Tracey’s daughter and Mollie’s aunt, said: “Mollie is a natural and will make a cracking mum and Sam will make a good dad.
“He is a little belter.”
Devon explained that Mollie was taken into theatre with concerns about Carmy’s heart rate.
Mollie was encouraged to push by the midwife in order to have a natural birth and avoid more intervention.
She has since recovered well from the birth and is now settling into parenthood with Sam.
Devon said: “It is nice to know they are stable and learning to become a parents.
“It is amazing.
“Family is important and has kept me going.”
Although Devon - who is one of four siblings - does not have children of her own she says she is happy to babysit.
She added: “I would jump off cliffs for them - but as soon as the morning is round I hand them back.”
As a full-time homemaker, great grandmother Tracey is ‘very family orientated’ and ‘buzzing with pride’ that their family tree has been extended with a new grandchild.
She said: “It is not often you get five generations.
“I have four children, nine grandchildren and now a great grandson.
“We’ve always lived in Spalding. I grew up down Royce Road and family is important to us.”
