Two of a Kind musical duo’s busy schedule as gigs go from strength to strength in Spalding and surrounding area

A musical duo who are fully booked until next spring have been going from strength-to-strength as they prepare for a busy schedule ahead.

Two Of A Kind features Gareth Sever from Long Sutton and Ron Thompson, Huntingdon, who perform 50s, 60s and 70s hits at gigs in Spalding, Wisbech and further afield.

Inspired by musical greats such as Buddy Holly, Elvis and Chuck Berry the friends recently entertained at Pippa’s Pantry in Sutton Bridge to mark the tea room’s five year birthday — and their next gig is in Long Sutton tonight (Friday September 13).

Mr Sever said: “It was amazing.

“It was special seeing a local business thriving.

“Pippa is a lovely lady and she had all of Sutton Bridge out with people bibbing their horns.”

Playing popular tunes to get people up dancing they perform classics by Gloria Gaynor such as I Will Survive and Tony Christie’s Is this the way to Amarillo.

Mr Sever said: “I love to Boogie by T. Rex always gets the crowds going.

“It’s great to play feel good floor fillers.

“We are lucky as we usually get rebooked the same night.”

The musical pair decided to carry on as a duo having formerly played as Four Of A Kind which featured Nick Cross who used to play in Mike Pender’s Searchers.

Mr Sever worked in Saudi Arabia for 20 years as a vice president of a scaffolding company and Mr Thompson teaches the guitar.

The pandemic led to all their gigs, which were booked two years in advance, being cancelled so he returned to Saudi for a short period of time and is now retired.

They play as far afield as Great Yarmouth, Skegness, King’s Lynn, Northamptonshire and Leicestershire and have exciting plans.

Mr Sever said: “Next year we are putting a country classic show together with the music of Johnny Cash.

“When we do bigger gigs we pull out all the stops.

“We have a lighting display and backdrop.”

Gigs coming up in September include:

Friday September 13 at Silverwood, Long Sutton 7pm

Saturday September 28 at Whaplode St Catherine’s Village Hall 7.30pm
