Lincolnshire County Council election results: Crowland ward
Nigel Pepper has won the right to continue to represent the Crowland division on Lincolnshire County Council.
The seat was a two-horse race between the Conservative candidate, the holder of the seat, and independent challenger Richard Fairman.
Coun Pepper won a clear victory, by more than 1,500 votes.
Coun Pepper said: "I feel excited and overwhelmed to think that amount of people voted for me. I give credit to my opponent Richard Fairman who actually contacted me to say that he was going to stand against me which I thought was a very honourable thing to do.
"We've not done any personal attacks to each other and we've not done anything unfriendly. In fact, quite the opposite, we've been friendly towards each other and I know after this, even though he's been defeated, he'll still be a good friend.
"I'd like to thank all of the staff who were at the polling stations for those long 15 hours - and it must have been a long 15 hours at some of those isolated polling stations.
"Also to thank the verifications staff last night and also the staff here today.
"Also all of those who have been involved in the prep of the election for the last few weeks.
"Finally, I'd like to give a big thank you to those 2,102 people who voted for me in my division. I've been a county councillor for 8 years now and thank them very much for putting their trust in me to serve them for the next 4 years.
I promise to do my best for them as always."
The result in full was:
Fairman, Richard (Ind) 588
Pepper, Nigel (Con) 2102
There were 50 spoiled ballot papers.
This is the third of South Holland's nine county council seats to be announced.
