A thrilled Tracey said: "I feel absolutely delighted. I've had loads of support and I feel quite shocked.

"I feel genuinely humbled that I've got the result that I have and I'm looking forward to getting started.

"I've had so much support from people during the campaign and I want to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported me."

This is the first of nine county council seats in South Holland to have been counted and announced at the Castle Sports Complex.

The result in full was:

Foyster, Paul (SH Ind) 400

Thomas, James (Lab) 196.

There were 13 spoiled ballot papers.
