Eight-year-old charity fundraiser Darcy Foulsham-Perkins is organising a family disco in aid of Facial Palsy UK.

The Long Sutton schoolgirl raised more than £1,800 for the cause earlier this year after she and her family hosted a special bingo fundraiser.

Darcy has had facial palsy – a weakness of the facial muscles resulting from damage to the facial nerve which can cause paralysis – since birth and is hoping to have corrective surgery in the future.

There are varying degrees of the condition, which can affect movement of the eyes and/or mouth, as well as other areas of the face and it is thought to affect around 100,000 people in the UK.

Darcy began fundraising for Facial Palsy UK last year and after collecting £405 through a danceathon was then awarded its Young Fundraiser trophy.

Her next event is a disco at Sutton St James Village Hall, on Saturday, September 15.

Darcy’s mum Jodie said: “We’re so proud of everything Darcy has achieved.

“Since she held her first fundraiser last year she’s been determined to raise more money for Facial Palsy UK, which supports research into causes and treatments, as well helping people and their families who are living with it.

“It’s a great charity – we’ve been lucky enough to receive tickets to Legoland for a family day out as a treat and it was great, as Darcy got the opportunity to meet other children with Facial Palsy too.”

Darcy’s event starts with children’s entertainment from 7pm to 8pm, followed by a family disco and raffle. There will also be a licensed bar.

Tickets for the event are £5 for adults and £3 for children. For tickets, or to donate a raffle prize, contact Jodie on 07979266532 or email Jodiefoul@outlook.com
