Spalding man jailed for 26 months after causing crash on A151 at Twenty

A Spalding man who seriously injured another motorist when he tried to overtake three cars was today (Thursday) jailed for 26 months.

Cezary Purzycki, 44, was also banned from driving for over three years and will have to take an extended driving test before he can get behind the wheel again.

Lincoln Crown Court heard Purzycki was driving "far too fast" for the national speed limit when he hit a van which was travelling in the opposite direction on the A151 near Twenty.

Purzycki, of Gilbert Road, Spalding, had pleaded guilty to a charge of causing serious injury by dangerous driving at an earlier hearing.

The court heard Purzycki had performed an "obviously dangerous manoeuvre".

His sentence was adjourned so his victim could attend court.

The prosecution said a roadside breath test suggested Purzycki was a little over twice the limit for drink-driving when the collision occurred.

A blood test taken some five hours later in hospital put Purzycki within the legal range.

But the defence accepted Purzycki had been over the drink-drive limit and that his driving was impaired at the time of the collision.

In an impact statement which was previously read out in court the victim said his last memory before the crash was going through a chicane near the village of Twenty.

The van driver added that he had been unable to return to his former line of work because of the severity of his injuries from the collision.

Purzckyi claimed to have very little recollection of the crash. He spent a month in hospital as a result of his own bad driving, the court was told.

Judge Catarina Sjolin Knight jailed Purzckyi for two years and two months.

He was also banned from driving for three years and ten months, and must take an extended re-test.
