Eat My Words: We review Fratelli Cafe in Spalding
A warm welcome and Mediterranean vibe at this new town cafe will certainly see me going back for more – after feeling like I’d been transported to a different country.
As my mum and I stepped foot into Fratelli Cafe in Spalding, we were greeted and welcomed in by the friendly staff, who told us to sit wherever we liked.
The cafe was pretty busy with customers enjoying lunch and coffee with friends.
Something we both picked up on, was the nice background music which set a lovely atmosphere and the simplistic but effective decor. There was also something about the vibe of Fratelli, which made us feel like we weren't in Spalding anymore – which is an added bonus.
The menu includes a selection of focaccia sandwiches, sourdough pizzas, salads, pizzetta and breakfast and brunch options.
I opted for the scrambled eggs on toast which cost £9 and a strawberry lemonade which was £4 and my mum chose the croque madam which was also £9 and a virgin mojito for £6.50.

Our first impressions of the menu was that it had a nice variety of options and the portion sizes sounded generous.
My mum was tempted to get a full English breakfast but decided against it because she didn’t want to spend £12 and not be able to finish it all – we thought the cafe could maybe look into offering small or regular sized plates for people who may fancy something a bit lighter.
The strawberry lemonade was so refreshing and after taste testing my mum’s virgin mojito, I can also say it was delicious and can imagine both would be perfect on a hot summer’s day.
Our waitress delivered the goods on slate plates which were a nice touch and the presentation for both dishes was spot on – we couldn’t wait to dive in.
Everything was so fresh and we felt like we had our money's worth with the quality and portion size. Both of the dishes came with a delicious side salad and mine was also accompanied by some avocado.
We were too stuffed for a sweet treat but I definitely want to go back soon to try one of the sourdough pizzas and a pudding.
During our time at the cafe there was a steady flow of visitors, as many passers by got drawn in to take a look at the menu and have a bite to eat.
I really hope that Fratelli is here to stay as it’s such a lovely independent business and in my opinion, that’s what the town centre needs.
It offers a delightful dining experience and I don’t feel like there is anywhere in Spalding quite like it. I’ll be sure to recommend it to anyone looking for a good place to go for lunch in the future.
Out of five:
Food: We really enjoyed our food and neither of us had any faults. I’ll definitely be returning to try out some of the other options on the menu. *****
Drink: My mum and I both thoroughly enjoyed our drinks and I think there is a varied selection to choose from. They were fresh and flavoursome and I’d like to go back and try some of the other mocktails on offer. *****
Decor: Even though the building is quite small, I think the owners have made use of the space they have, by adding mirrors on both sides of the room. The wood and green foliage looks really nice and the industrial lights add a modern and sleek touch. *****
Staff: Everyone was so friendly and welcoming which created a nice relaxing space. *****
Price: It’s definitely more on the pricey side as the total was £28.50. However, I feel like you get what you pay for with the quality of the produce, the service, portion size and experience, so in my opinion it’s worth it if you are willing to pay that little bit extra. ****
