Community Mind Chatters gear up for next podcast episode with recording taking place in Spalding today
A mental health campaigner hopes to break the stigma and raise awareness, in a new podcast episode.
Community Mind Chatters, will be record its next episode today (Saturday May, 18) – to raise awareness for Mental Health Awareness week.
The group was created two years ago by Spalding campaigner Vanessa Browning, who invites guest speakers onto the platform to cover a range of topics.
She said: “We started it because we wanted to raise awareness for mental health. I like to hear other people’s inspirational journeys and educate people that it’s okay to talk about these topics openly and not be judged.
“The podcast is amazing. We get people who come on who bear all and it’s quite a hard thing to do – I’ve had men on there say some shocking things and it can be quite emotional.
“I have spoken about my post traumatic stress disorder and recovery journey and I think the episodes are interesting to watch because it is nice to get this information out there.
“I think for quite a lot of the speakers I have had over the last couple of years, it has really done them a lot of good – it’s like a healing.”
Recording for the podcast is set to take place at The Zen Space on Broad Street in Spalding. Visitors are welcome to come and listen to the guest speakers between 2pm and 6pm.
Vanessa said: “I get a bit nervous about it but I think because I am so confident with mental health, I end up forgetting people are there watching.
“I have received feedback from people who have said they can really relate to the topics. Mental health can be dark and not very nice – if we don’t talk about it then it becomes a much bigger issue and we are hoping to do more podcasts in the future.”
Vanessa and Lincolnshire Police were also in town earlier in the week to talk to people about mental health.
She said: “We had so many people come up to us and say that someone they know is struggling and they don’t know what to do. We offered our support and gave them the right resources and it was such an amazing day.”
