Moulton Park to open tomorrow
Years of waiting will come to an end tomorrow (Saturday, June 7) when Moulton Park’s gates are finally open to the public.
The John and Maureen Biggadike Foundation officially purchased Moulton Park from South Holland District Council earlier this year with the aim of making it a much needed space for the community.
Moulton Park had been purchased by the district council in 2016 but remained widely unused until tomorrow when the gates to the new car park will open at 10am tomorrow.
Members of Moulton Park Committee and scores of volunteers have put in hours of work tidy up the 20 acre site.
Committee chairman Steven Adcock said: “Credit goes to everyone who has helped to get the park open.
“We have had two volunteer days to clear up the park as it has been empty for eight or nine years possibly longer. There were broken branches and we have taken away two to three trailer loads of branches in one session.
“The last session was trimming hedges back near the gated access.
“It is exciting to be opening but it has been manic in the last few weeks.”
Another big job undertaken was mowing the long grass - which took a tractor two days to do. A further cut has been done ahead of tomorrow’s opening.
A new car park, which was part of the planning conditions, has been created on the site with gates.
The committee has also added new picnic and park benches around the site for people to sit and enjoy the site.
Walking routes have also been created at the park. The red Biggadike route is half-a-mile long with the blue Ward route covers a quarter mile distance.
Villagers have put forward a number of ideas for the future use of the park which the committee are going to explore going forward.
Mr Adcock said: “We just want to get the park open - it’s long overdue.”
Last year Moulton Parish Council officially opened a play area at the park - which brought to an end decades of waiting by generations of youngsters.
