MP Sir John Hayes supports Spalding-area pubs
MP Sir John Hayes has pledged his support for the Long Live the Local campaign to help pubs and breweries in South Holland and The Deepings recover and thrive.
The Covid-19 pandemic has had a devastating impact on brewers and pubs throughout the UK and continues to do so as the sector tries to kick start its recovery.
To facilitate the sector's recovery and secure its future, Sir John is calling on the Government to lower VAT and business rates for pubs and for an overall reduction in beer duty.
Sir John said: “Pubs are at the beating heart of villages and towns across South Holland and The Deepings. Beloved locals often boast of unique histories and stories inseparable from the communities they serve – with each closure the United Kingdom loses a little piece of its identity. Pubs have borne a disproportionate burden as a result of the pandemic; I’m calling on the chancellor to protect this precious resource."
Brewing and pubs in South Holland and The Deepings alone supports 974 jobs and contributes £26m to the local economy.
