Pupils show teamwork, passion and great spirit

Special needs youngsters from local primary schools learnt a new sport when they were introduced to New Age Kurling.

The sport is similar to the Kurling seen in the Winter Olympics except the stones run on ball bearings rather than ice so it can be played in sports halls.

Ten teams from Spalding Parish, Holbeach Fleet Wood Lane, Holbeach Academy, Long Sutton, Spalding St Norberts and Gosberton House came together to play an exciting tournament at Spalding Priory School.

Most pupils hadn’t played the skilful , tactical sport before or had the opportunity to represent their school against other pupils. The

atmosphere was fabulous and lots of great teamwork, passion and determination was shown by all.

Winners were Spalding Parish A, with Fleet Wood Lane A second and Holbeach Academy A third.

Organisers Agilitas Sports thanked Spalding Priory for hosting the event, their leaders who umpired and to all the schools for coming.

Agilitas is part of the School Sports Partnership and run a wide variety of School Games and County Competitions.

Some are all-out competitive, some are festivals allowing pupils to learn new skills, some are developmental to

introduce new sports and some, like New Age Kurling, are specifically to engage pupil with special needs.
