New Holbeach puffin crossing has been installed

Work to install a new pedestrian crossing near a primary school has been completed.

Lincolnshire County Council has created a puffin crossing in Spalding Road, Holbeach, as part of a £3.8 million improvement scheme.

The crossing was completed on Tuesday, October 15, and can be used by families heading to William Stukeley Primary School.

Coun Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: “This and the new crossing we’ve just finished in Blyton are the two latest we’ve completed as part of our ongoing initiative to improve safety at the some of the county’s most-crossed roads.

“This initiative is a perfect example of councillors delivering for their local residents, since all of these new crossings will not only increase safety, but also improve the lives of those living in the communities where they’re located by making it easier to get around by foot.”

Holbeach councillor Tracey Carter is pleased that the crossing has been completed.

She said: “I’m really happy to see this much-needed crossing fully-built as parents have been calling for it to be built for years.

“Now that it’s open, schoolchildren, parents and others can safely cross Spalding Road to get to and from the school and town.

“I want to thank everyone who’s helped make this important piece of infrastructure a reality.”

This project is part of the ongoing Community Crossing Initiative, which will see over ten pedestrian crossings built throughout the county. The initiative will cost £3.8 million, with £1.5 million earmarked by Executive in 2023 and the remaining coming from a combination of additional county council funding and developer contributions.
