Fresh planning applications submitted for Holbeach Aldi store

The construction of a new supermarket could be a step closer to reality after two fresh applications have been submitted.

Aldi has cleared a former South Holland District Council depot site in Fleet Street, Holbeach, in readiness for a new store – which received planning permission in March last year.

The budget supermarket has now submitted two fresh applications to the district council which concentrate on things like noise, materials, lighting and how the car park is going to be secured. These are conditions of last year’s approval by the district council’s planning committee.

The firm has submitted details of a telescopic gate along with a noise assessment and the materials it will be using to construct the store.

Another supermarket chain, Lidl, has also confirmed that it is eyeing up Holbeach as a potential site for a new store.

Lidl has issued a brochure of towns in which it would be interested in buying land in – and Holbeach is on that list. Spalding is also listed within the brochure, but the retailer already has two stores in the town.
