Councillor and mental health advocate take part in Samaritans Dawn Walk in celebration of World Mental Health Day
A dawn walk allowed a councillor and mental advocate to show their support to those who are facing mental health issues.
Vanessa Browning, founder of Community Mind Matters and Coun Ingrid Sheard completed a 5k route at sunrise around the Castle Sports Complex, Spalding, in aid of the Samaritans.
The duo embarked on the walk to support the charity which aims to reduce the number of people who die by suicide.
Coun Sheard said: “It is important to ensure that nobody feels alone and to try to find somebody to talk to whether it be a friend or family member.
“Getting out walking and absorbing your surroundings is a great way to calm the mind. Never feel alone.
“No matter what the situation is, things can get better and the Samaritans are always there to talk to.”
They walked around the sports track at the sports centre starting at 6am and also raised £50 for the charity.
Vanessa added: “I have done it for a few years now for the Samaritans.
“It was lovely to see the sunrise plus this charity helps so many people.
“We raised some money but it is important to also bring awareness.”
