Ofsted inspect new Holbeach independent school

A new independent school for children with special educational needs has been reviewed by Ofsted inspectors.

Hexagon Care Services was granted planning permission last year to change the use of a former children’s home, The Chestnuts, in Fen Road, Holbeach, into an independent school.

The pre-registration inspection document shows that 36 children will be on the roll and that fees could range from £53,602 to £76,412.

Shaheen Hussain, lead inspector, found that ‘the school is likely to meet all the independent school standards when it opens’.

The report states: “The school recognises that pupils who attend the school may have had negative experiences of education previously. The school aims to address this by providing a curriculum that is bespoke to pupils’ individual needs. Some of this curriculum is in place already. Other aspects will be developed as each pupil’s needs are assessed.

“The proprietor intends for pupils to learn a broad curriculum. There are schemes of work in place that set out what pupils will learn in mathematical, scientific, technological, human and social, physical and aesthetic and creative education. The school aims to enhance its curriculum offer by considering pupils’ interests, such as learning about horticulture or coastal studies.

“The proprietor intends that pupils will be able to access nationally accredited qualification courses, such as functional skills, BTEC National Diplomas and GCSEs.”
