Organ blower causes fire inside Holbeach church
An historic organ at a town church has been damaged by fire.
Smoke was seen pouring from the organ at All Saints’ Church in Holbeach on Sunday morning.
Firefighters say that the incident was sparked by an overheated organ blower.
A spokesperson for Holbeach Fire Service said: “The incident was reported to us at 10.38am on Sunday morning and was attended by crews from Long Sutton and Spalding.
“It resulted in light fire damage to an electric motor of a church organ and the fire was out on arrival of the crews.”
All Saints - which is celebrating its 800th anniversary this year - is one of the few churches in the area to have an organ of cathedral proportions with three sections.
After standing tuneless for more than a decade, the organ, which has parts that date back to the 19th century, underwent a £30,000 restoration which was completed in 2021.
