Residents at Anfield Road in Long Sutton slam overgrown grass for second year running

A town street has been deemed a ‘trashy’ eyesore due to an ongoing issue with overgrown grass.

For the second year running, residents at Anfield Road in Long Sutton have raised concerns about a playing field in the middle of the estate.

Debate continues regarding who actually has jurisdiction for the grass. Longhurst Group owns houses on the street while Countryside Properties is in charge of the site - but neither will trim the field.

This has led to Sabhion Fuller, who has lived on the street for ten years, voicing her frustrations at a lack of action which leaves her two children with nowhere to play.

She said: “Again, nobody seems interested in tackling the field. It’s got to a point now where it’s got extremely high and the children can’t use it.

“If you put children in there you wouldn’t see them - that’s how high it is.

“You don’t know what’s in there, do you?”

Last year, work from a band of residents and district councillor Jack Tyrrell led to the grass being trimmed after resident Peter Sparkes claimed it would result in a child being hurt or killed.

However, Ms Fuller says it is not financially viable for residents to fork out money on a yearly basis to deal with the problem.

“Everyone moans about it, but nobody actually does anything about it,” she added.

“I’m very house proud, and it makes the estate look trashy. I hate that.

“I hate looking at it, and I have to drive past it every day.

“It’s nice weather now, and people want to go out there and play football and play in the park.

“You can play in the park, because it doesn’t seem too bad - it’s getting to it, because of the length of the field around it.”

Ms Fuller added that elderly residents at Anfield Road find it ‘heartbreaking’ that they do not have a nice view from their windows.

She is also worried that travellers could set up camp on the site and that nothing could be done.

A Longhurst Group spokesperson said: “This particular area is not under our ownership, and it is not our responsibility to maintain it.”
