Spalding Flower Parade passed peacefully says Boston and South Holland Police Inspector
Motorists who flouted road closures in place for Spalding Flower Parade were among the issues dealt with by police over the weekend.
Insp Ian Cotton, of Boston and South Holland’s Neighbourhood Police Team, said Saturday’s procession had passed ‘peacefully’ and was a really successful event.
A Pro-Palastine protest had been held on the outskirts of the town on Saturday but did not affect the parade.
Insp Cotton said: “The parade passed peacefully. There were some motorists dealt with for traffic violations (driving through the closures). There was one arrest made for possession with intent to supply.
“The Pro-Palastine protest was approximately half a mile from the parade route, and did not move location. It was a peaceful protest that proceeded without incident.
“From our perspective it was a really successful event enjoyed by all who took part.”
The police were praised by Spalding Flower Parade director Stephen Timewell, who brought back the popular event in 2023.
In statement over Facebook, Mr Timewell said: “The police attendance over the weekend was nothing short of impressive. The police played an active role, interacting with the public whilst helping maintain safety and security.
“I spoke to several police officers who were simply amazing. Their attitude towards a community event was first class and they entered into the spirit of the event.
“We as organisers are not entitled to police coverage so it was a real privilege to have them onboard. The police rarely receive the gratitude they deserve so well done to all of them.”
