Spalding woman Pat (91) dedicates her time to crafting for Flower Parade
A 91 year old crafter has amazed parade supporters with more than 1,000 creations.
Spalding Flower Parade organiser Stephen Timewell was astounded to see six bags of knitted squares among his collection from Spalding Library on Thursday.
The creations had been made by a mystery lady, but after a search on social media, Steve managed to track her down.
Pat Richardson was found to be the lady behind the squares, which will be utilised to create scales for a Dragon on one of the floats in the parade.
Pat’s daughter Penelope Hindson said that it keeps her going.
“She has dementia so I keep reminding her how happy you were receiving the squares, she said.
“She forgets a lot now.”
Hundreds of people took to Facebook to say thank you to Pat and all the messages were passed on to her
Steve said, “ I find it hard to believe that people can be so generous with their time and especially the cost of wool.
“We look forward to pinning all these pieces onto the floats soon and Pat will be invited along to watch her squares being put to use.
“I think especially with the elderly, having a purpose such as this is an important part of their life in the community, it goes to show that they still have so much to offer the community.”
More than 20,000 crafted flowers have been made to adorn the floats so far.
The event is set to take place on Saturday, May 13, 2023.
