Plans submitted to convert former Holbeach library into Spar shop

Plans have been submitted to turn a former library into a convenience store.

Mr V Odedra has submitted a bid to change the use of Novo Cosmetics, in Church Street, Holbeach, formerly the town’s library, into a Spar store.

A planning application relating to the signage has also been submitted to South Holland District Council for this site.

Documents with the planning application state that the Spar shop will ‘create employment opportunities for residents’.

The heritage and planning statement says: “The proposed shop will contribute positively to the vitality and diversity of the town centre retail offer, providing essential goods and services to residents.

“The change of use aligns with the principles of sustainable development by repurposing an existing property with commercial planning approval without the need for new construction.

“Since the relocation of the library in 2017 the building has been empty and even though planning permission was received in 2021 for a beauty clinic the building has remained empty to this day.”

An application for a licence to sell alcohol from the proposed Spar shop was submitted last month.
