Plans to replace Spalding’s ‘circle of death’ as part of £280k revamp still in design stage

Plans to remove the much-aligned ‘circle of death’ as part of a £280,000 revamp of town centre planters are still in the design stage.

South Holland District Council ran a consultation in October last year asking residents and shoppers on how they should improve the seating and planters in Hall Place, Red Lion Street and the riverside in Spalding.

As part of that move the circle seating area in Hall Place – which had been dubbed the ‘circle of death’ by councillor James Le Sage – is going to be removed. This was announced by deputy leader of the council, Gary Taylor in December.

We approached the district council for an update on what is happening with the plans and have been told that the design and specification preparation of the project is still taking place after the consultation.

But the authority aims to start the procurement process and the work itself later in the year.
