Police treating Saracen’s Head and Skegness car fires as ‘deliberate’… but Spalding incident caused by discarded cigarette
Police are investigating two car fires which took place in the early hours of the morning.
Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue were called out to three vehicle blazes within a 90-minute period today (May 12), in Spalding, Saracen’s Head and Skegness.
In a statement issued to LincsOnline, Police say they are treating the Saracen’s Head and Skegness incidents as cases of arson.
“We are treating both fires as deliberate,” it said.
“We attended Lancaster Avenue, Skegness, after receiving a call to our force control room at 1.04am.
“We received a call on the fire at Saltney Gate, Saracens Head at 2.18am. We attended after the vehicle was extinguished.”
Lincolnshire Police added it was ‘too early to comment further’ on the incidents.
The fire service confirmed that the incident involving a car in Spalding, reported shortly after midnight, was ‘determined as accidental due to a carelessly discarded cigarette’.
The vehicle had been abandoned on land off St Thomas’ Road in Spalding, the rear of a London Road property.
One eyewitness told LincsOnline: “It didn’t half go up.”
Information circulated by the fire service early this morning said all three vehicles suffered ‘severe damage’.
Long Sutton Fire Station attended the Saracen’s Head blaze, two Skegness Fire Station appliances attended the incident in their town while Spalding Fire Station was called out to the London Road incident.
