Repairs to Spalding traffic lights could take ‘considerably longer’ than normal
Motorists have been warned that repairs to traffic lights in the town centre could ‘take considerably longer’ than normal.
Lincolnshire County Council says the traffic lights around Spalding’s High Bridge were knocked out following a crash on Sunday (June 1).
Temporary lights were placed on Bridge Street, High Street, Church Street and Churchgate on Monday - which have created mayhem in the town over the last two days.
High Street has been reduced to one lane because of the lights - which is also having an impact on traffic flows.
But officials cannot give a timescale of when the repairs will be completed.
A spokesman said: “On Sunday, the traffic signal controller, which runs the junction, was struck by a vehicle in a road traffic incident. It is currently sitting against a wall which appears to have suffered structural damage.
"It cannot be safely removed without knowing the extent of the damage to the adjacent wall.
"We have put up temporary traffic signals as a temporary measure to keep the junction running until we can complete the repairs and return the permanent signals back to normal operation. This may take considerably longer than our usual repair time due to the current circumstances.
"We will issue an update regarding the time the works will take when we have that information."
