Cameras installed at notorious fly-tipping hotspot in Spalding – and more could be on the way

A resident has welcomed cameras being installed around a notorious fly-tipping hotspot.

For years an area around Spalding’s Ayscough Avenue and Sough Avenue has found itself littered with wardrobes, fridges, chairs and other unwanted junk.

But it is hoped that will now be stopped following the arrival of cameras ready to deter dumpers or catch culprits.

“I’m hoping it will make people stop,” said the longstanding resident.

“I’m happy to see the camera there. We’ve put up with it for 14-and-a-half years, it’s been an ongoing problem.”

While an area of grassland is available for locals to put out their refuse sacks on the morning of collection, flagrant fly-tippers – believed to be local renters getting rid of unwanted goods before moving out of the area – have had no qualms about littering the street and brazenly ignoring warning signs.

“They usually bring furniture out in the middle of the night if they want to dump it, and leave it with the rubbish bags,” the resident continued.

“It’s the people here. They move in and out like nobody’s business.”

The camera has been installed by Kingdom LA Support, who work in partnership with South Holland District Council on a number of enviro-crime issues, after the resident approached St Mary’s ward councillors Mark Le Sage and Dave Ashby with his concerns.

Coun Anthony Casson, SHDC’s Portfolio Holder for Public Protection, called the move a ‘step forward’ in the battle with fly-tippers.

“It’s a terrible area for it and I hope this makes people stop doing it,” he said.

Coun Casson added he was ‘working on’ getting cameras at other notorious fly-tipping areas.
