Sutton Bridge residents left disappointed as vandals rip out handrail at beauty spot
Vandalism to a handrail and littering at a village’s riverside beauty spot have left residents feeling disappointed.
Vandals have ripped out a handrail at Garner’s Wharf in Sutton Bridge and littered the area with rubbish.
The incident has been reported to Sutton Bridge Parish Council and Lincolnshire County Council via Fix My Street.
A post on social media said: “Went for a walk along the river this morning and saw this - so disappointing!
“I see the handrail has now been yanked out of the ground!! Why can't everyone just respect where they live?
“Rubbish left by the seats, with bins literally 10 seconds away!”
Councillors and residents are working hard to make the village an appealing gateway into Lincolnshire.
Coun Jack Tyrrell has helped to organise a decorative boat on the traffic island as visitors enter the county via the bridge.
Sutton Bridge Wombles Andy Tilley and Deanne Gough work tirelessly to keep the area clean and tidy.
A spokesperson from Sutton Bridge Parish Council said: “The railings were reported to us earlier this week as being loose, someone had tried to unscrew them.
“It was reported to LCC on fix my street and also to the antisocial behaviour team at SHDC.
“I believe they then liaise with the police.”
Lincolnshire Police officers have been made aware of the damage.
