Spalding resident worried communal rubbish area putting off potential house buyers

A frustrated resident feels that the build-up of rubbish and household items in a communal area is affecting the sale of his home.

The resident, who asked to remain anonymous, lives in Juniper Crescent, Spalding and his house has been on the market for nine months - and feels that he has missed out on viewings due to the rubbish.

Although South Holland District Council has cleared the recent piles of waste, he feels that it could mount up again - and put off more potential sales.

He said: “I can’t fault the council who cleared it up this week and I sent them an email to thank them.

“But for weeks there has been a large amount of rubbish which was not being collected and it is a general eyesore.

“Four people have not go ahead with the viewing and told the estate agent that they saw the rubbish and have driven off.”

The man feels that the build-up of waste is down to a combination of factors including residents using the wrong bags so the waste is not collected and rented accommodation.

Other issues he has seen included the dumping of a fridge and mattress in a communal area.

The resident added: “For a long time I had no response from the council but they have swept and cleared the whole area.

“I am concerned it will start again.”

The resident hopes that the council will make sure residents understand what can and can’t be left and the collection times.

A spokesperson from South Holland District Council said: "Residents have been sent advice letters on collections and what can and can't go into bags, including information on what constitutes fly-tipping.

“This is an area the council's enforcement team are keeping an eye on as part of their patrols."
