Holbeach United Services Club event raises £1,623.92 for William Stukeley Primary School pupil undergoing chemotherapy for brain tumour

A youngster shaved his head to raise hundreds of pounds to help build a special annexe for a school boy who is being treated for a brain tumour.

Jack Naish,10 has returned to his Sutton Bridge home from Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge after being where he has been undergoing chemotherapy treatment for the tumour - which was diagnosed after a routine eye appointment.

Friends of the William Stukeley Primary School pupil - who has lost his hair through chemo - rallied round by organising a family fundraiser at Holbeach United Services Club which raised £1,623.92.

Oliver’s mum, Roxanne Kent, said the youngster raised £753.17 in sponsorship alone.

She said: “It went brilliantly and Oliver is buzzing.

“He was nervous and excited but wanted to show Jack support.

“I am shocked and flabbergasted as I didn't expect the amount raised.”

The evening was a sell out and included face painting, hair braiding, raffle prizes, sweet stalls and making friendship bracelets that will be given to Jack.

Last June, Jack was referred to Peterborough Hospital for a brain scan following an appointment at Specsavers as his family feared that he had a lazy eye muscle.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will help Jack’s legal guardians, Tom Naish and Belinda McClements, build a special annex at their home where Jack can continue his treatment and tradesmen have offered their skills for free.

Belinda McClements, Jack’s legal guardian, has thanked the community for their support.

She said: “Jack is home which has been the longest time since diagnosis.

“The community support has been so overwhelming.

“The traders have been in and are doing wonders for Jack.”

Jack is facing 18 months of treatment and the building work will enable nurses to visit him as he recovers.

Belinda added: “We are hoping that Jack can visit his school before Christmas.

“Jack and Oliver finally caught up with each other.

“Hopefully when all is done we can invite everyone - people have been so kind.”
