Donington Cowley Endowed primary school launches new reading ‘nest’ for pupils

A headteacher has said she is ‘delighted’ to launch a new learning ‘nest’, which encourages youngsters to develop a passion for reading.

Donington Cowley Endowed primary school recently opened its ‘Robin Nest’ facility for pupils on Monday, September 29.

Following on from their commitment to ensure all children develop a passion for reading, the school has been recognised by the Lincolnshire Reading Pledge Awards, and achieved a bronze and silver title – they are now working towards the gold status.

Executive head teacher, Mrs Sophie Foston said: “Through the opportunities we offer, our aim is to ignite children’s imagination, evoke curiosity and inspire awe and wonder through captivating literary journeys.

“Robin’s Nest provides a wonderful environment for exploring texts, shared and independent reading and storytelling.

“We are delighted to open our newest facility.

“Our new library provides an incredible learning environment to be enjoyed by all.”

The outdoor cabin is fully stocked with books and features welcoming seating areas for storytelling and independent reading.

It was funded by The Cowley Trust (The Cowley Endowed Schools Foundation), which is a registered charity established to support Donington Cowley Endowed primary school and Cowley Academy.

Mrs Foston added: “We already have exciting ideas of how this facility will be further developed – watch this space.

“Our school recognises how privileged we are to be supported by The Cowley Trust and are incredibly grateful for their generosity which has enabled us to develop our school facilities.

“We would like to thank them for their donations and for their unwavering commitment to our children.”

The primary school also opened its new nursery facility earlier in September with a ‘grand’ ribbon cutting ceremony.

It was funded by DfE (Department for Education).
