Seated exercise class in Spalding aims to combat isolation and improve older generation’s mobility
The older generation are being encouraged to improve their mobility and have a boogie at seated fitness classes.
Adults Move Lincolnshire says its members ‘love’ the new sessions and are hoping to see more people get involved over the next few weeks.
The community organisation runs the Socialise and Mobilise group every Wednesday at the Sezanne Walk Community Centre in Spalding, between 11am and 12pm.
Roseanna Mackay, who is one of the trainers who leads the group, said: “We want to broaden it so everyone knows they can come.
“Our sessions are seated and often include props such as pom poms and silk scarves to encourage movement and exercise. We also play 50s, 60s and 70s music for everyone to sing or tap along to.”
The fun-feel good classes include engaging exercises which help limber up older adults joints and boost aerobics.
Roseanna added: “There are so many physical and mental benefits. The aim of the classes is to improve health and wellbeing and reduce isolation.
“So far they are going really well and everyone is enjoying it. It’s a lovely group of men and women and we all just have a laugh – they love it.”
The class costs £3 per session or £15 for a six-week block book.
Classes are also held in the community centre in Hargate Close, Fleet Hargate, every Tuesday from 11am until 12pm with Bekki.
