Shoppers were surprised to meet real parrots in street and bird handlers in Spalding

Shoppers were surprised to bump into three colourful feathered friends - one of which has been on television - in a town centre.

Bird handlers Tony Dickinson and Tina Outram showed off their macaws Mishka, Aurora and Inca who has appeared on Come Dine With Me and Judge Rinder as they walked through Spalding earlier today (Monday, October 21).

The couple owns hire company Parrots and Pirates, based in Hull, and had visited residents at Southfield House Care Home, in Woolram Wygate, for a pirate themed wellbeing event.

Mr Dickinson said: “We use the parrots for therapy sessions, corporate events, comic cons and media work.

“It started out as a bit of a laugh and now it is our tenth year.

“Inca was on Judge Rinder in a courtroom scenario which was a bit of fun.”

Residents at the home were able to pet the parrots and feed them.

Leeanne Crowe, senior carer at the home said: “The residents loved it and all got involved.

“The parrots were sitting on their shoulders and doing tricks.

“Animals are good medicine for them and it makes them smile.”

Returning from the event Tony and Tina walked through Hall Place and groups of onlookers surrounded the pair and their parrots.

Youngsters Tenby Williams, 5, who wants to be a vet when she is older, and Atlas Jobe, 8, from Spalding got to hold the parrots.
