Moulton sisters pay tribute to ‘full of life’ stepdad after honouring him with ‘amazing’ feat

Nick Craft was a well loved member of the community, who created wonderful memories with friends and family — and so it’s only fitting that more were made in his honour.

After putting their best foot forward and raising close to £10,000 for charity in memory of their stepdad, sisters Amy, 21 and Chloe Wright, 24, of Moulton, say they are ‘overwhelmed’ by the support of their community in helping to pay tribute to Nick.

The family’s life was turned upside down after their ‘biggest champion’ was diagnosed with melanoma – a type of skin cancer – in 2020.

As a result of discovering a bruise on his nail Nick, of Moulton, was taken into surgery to have his thumb removed.

Friends and family were then overjoyed after being told Nick was finally free of the horrible disease by medical professionals — but sadly it returned to take his life at the end of last year.

Chloe said: “Nick was so excited when he was given the all clear, so much so, he took bottles of champagne and dropped them round to everyone’s doorstep in our neighbourhood – everyone had a glass to celebrate.

“Not long after he had been given the news, lumps started appearing on his arms and over his whole body – we were told it had spread to his lymph nodes and his cancer became life-limiting.

“It was very strange and sad to see him like that because he was quite a manly man and a strong figure, and that image was taken away from him.

“After living with the disease for five years, cancer took our stepdad from us in October last year. It was truly devastating.

“He was the centre of our world and supported all of our decisions. He joined our family when I was 11-years-old and we were really close – we had lots of wonderful memories.”

Throughout his life, Nick would donate to Cancer Research every month and the two sisters felt passionate to follow in his footsteps and do something in his memory.

Chloe and Amy signed up to run the London Marathon in April this year, and were able to tell Nick the exciting news just before he died.

“He was so excited when we told him about the London Marathon,” Chloe added.

“We decided to run for Macmillan Cancer Support because they were quite supportive when everything was going on.

“The nurses would always come out to look after him and provided equipment to help Nick move around and be as comfortable as he could at home.

“We wanted to raise as much money as we could so Macmillan can continue to help people.”

The sisters raised almost £10,000 for the organisation and decided to live-stream part of the run on social media.

Chloe said: “There were so many people cheering us along and our family and friends from Moulton had travelled to be there with us.

“We filmed part of the run on Facebook live so that everyone who had been following our journey could start the marathon with us.

“It was amazing and I loved every second of it. One of our biggest supporters throughout the fundraising and marathon run was our mum, Debbie Craft.

She has been with us every step and was supporting us constantly. I also don’t think either me or my sister would have got through the marathon without doing it together.

“Having all of this support from everyone has been overwhelming and emotional.

“Everyone in the community knew Nick or knew of him and he would light up any room with his sense of humour and love of life.”

Emma Pound, who is the Challenge Event Manager for Macmillan, said: “A huge congratulations to Amy and Chloe – what a wonderful tribute to their stepdad.

“We are so grateful for the support we’ve received in helping us raise precious donations that go toward maintaining valuable services that really make difference to all those living with and affected by cancer.
