South Holland District Council leader says Spalding has low crime rate

A council leader has stressed that Spalding has a low crime rate and remains a safe place to live following a second suspected murder in the town.

South Holland District Council leader Coun Nick Worth wants to reassure residents after police cordoned-off a section of Victoria Street Car Park following the discovery of a woman’s body in a nearby property.

Officers forced their way into the property in Winsover Road, which overlooks the car park, after concerns were raised about a woman’s safety last night (Tuesday, November 26).

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Coun Worth said: “Spalding remains a safe place to live, with a very low rate of crime compared to other similar rural towns. Cases like these are extremely rare and all of our thoughts are currently with the victims and their families.

“It would be inappropriate to comment or speculate more widely whilst details have not been released and Lincolnshire Police’s investigations are still ongoing.”

This comes just days after two men were arrested following the death of 45-year-old Vadims Zmicerevskis on the neighbouring junction of Green Lane and St Thomas’ Road on November 11.

Police are also investigating the ‘unexplained death’ of Przemyslaw Gebka, 42, whose body was found in Fulney Lane South, on the outskirts of the town, on November 2.

Viktors Zeglovs, 33, of no fixed abode, was charged with the murder of Mr Zmicerevskis while a 47-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of affray has been bailed pending further investigations.
