Spring cleaning resulted in busy weekend at Spalding tip which had to stop accepting some waste

Spring cleaning resulted in a busy weekend at the town tip - which had to stop accepting certain items.

Staff at the Spalding Household Waste and Recycling Centre were forced had to stop taking upholstered furniture, wood and non-recyclables on Sunday (March 9) due to the amount of rubbish being taken to the tip.

Lincolnshire County Council has put the issue down to an increase in spring cleaning.

A spokesman said: “As the first warm weather weekend of spring, residents made the most of it to 'spring clean' their homes and gardens.

“As a result, our household waste recycling centres were extremely busy. Normal service has largely resumed at Spalding, and the site is once again accepting wood and non-recyclable items.”

The West Marsh Road centre is now operating normally.
