‘Stringent’ bail conditions in place as man arrested on suspicion of graffiti offences in Spalding and Peterborough
A man has been arrested on suspicion of graffiti offences across two counties.
The 39-year-old, who is not being named by police, has been bailed with stringent conditions in place to prevent further offences.
is alleged to have carried out these offences between January 12 and May 1 this year in both Spalding and Peterborough.
He was arrested following a joint investigation between Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire Police.
“A 39-year-old man from The Meadows, Spalding, was arrested on September 4 on suspicion of criminal damage, namely graffiti, alleged to have taken place between January 12 and May 1,” a Cambridgeshire Police statement said
“He has been released on conditional bail until December 4, with conditions not to be in possession of any paint items or items that can cause criminal damage, to live and sleep at a specific address in Spalding and not to enter Cambridgeshire unless for a pre-approved medical or legal appointment.”
A South Holland Police statement read: “We have worked in collaboration with Cambridgeshire Police and made an arrest in connection with ongoing graffiti in Spalding and Peterborough.
“The individual is on bail pending further enquiries with stringent bail conditions to prevent further graffiti in both Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire.”
South Holland District Council had offered a reward of £500 for information that led to the prosecution of the person behind unsightly tags in the town.
However, South Holland police say this arrest is ‘not connected with this reward’.
“SHDC have issued a community protection warning notice, which also prohibits the individual possessing articles used to damage property,” the statement continued.
“We will continue to tackle reports of anti-social behaviour within South Holland.
“Please ensure any new graffiti or damage is reported to 101 promptly for us to investigate.”
South Holland District Council have confirmed the conditions include not to graffiti (unless he has prior permission from SHDC on graffiti boards) and not to carry spray cans/pens that can be used to cause criminal damage.
