More than 100 visitors attended a successful art exhibition at The Sessions House, Spalding

A successful art exhibition highlighted there is a keen interest in the area – as more than 100 people attended.

The Sessions House in Spalding, welcomed 25 different artists and more than 100 visitors for their first exhibition event at the weekend.

Owners of the Sessions House, Erika Yao and Andrew Blach, were happy with the event’s success and feel positive about hosting another one. Erika said: “We feel very passionate about supporting local art and hosting events which can get the community together.

“We heard from multiple artists, that there isn’t many opportunities for them to showcase their work and some of the events in other areas are really expensive, which is a hurdle to new and upcoming artists.

“I am very happy with the result of the event. It made the artists happy and it gives people something to do besides the pub on a Saturday night.

“People were asking us when the next one will be, so we want to continue doing it as a regular event and we want to encourage different artists to participate.”

The event was free for artists and visitors to attend and one of the artists, Joey Lowe, suggested the idea to Andrew and Erika.

He said: “Erika and Andrew posted on social media asking what events people in Spalding would like to see. I decided to contact them and suggested an art exhibition.

“We co-organised it together and I was pleased with how it went. It was a lot busier than I was expecting and I think for me, I was worried about how popular it was going to be, as I thought we didn’t really have an art scene in Spalding, as there wasn’t a known community of artists.

“It was quite exciting when I saw how many people were waiting to come inside and it’s proven that our town does have artists and those interested in art, who need these kind of events.”

Erika Yao, Andrew Blach and Joey Lowe hope to host more art exhibitions in the future. Keep up to date with The Sessions House Facebook page for future events.
